For over 20 years, St. Luke Respite Care Ministry has provided caregiver relief for families caring for loved ones with cognitive issues. This outreach ministry is designed for adults who can benefit from a time of socialization and stimulation while providing family members/caregivers with a break for themselves. The program operates Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in an inviting, homelike, free-standing building at 1021 Third Avenue. The staff and trained volunteers design a day filled with activities including exercise, music, active games, crafts, devotion time, and lunch. 

Respite Care is open to anyone in the community. Caregivers must call and schedule a time for an assessment visit. 

The St Luke Respite Care Ministry a wonderful way for St. Luke Church and community members to volunteer. There are no requirements, just a willingness to give a listening ear or helping hand to some of the most delightful people you could hope to meet. You can volunteer weekly, monthly, or whenever you are available.

As needs arise in our community, our “Servants At Work” are there to help. From house repairs to wheelchair ramps, St. Luke’s SAW Ministry seeks to be the hands and feet of Jesus through various projects to help those without the proper resources. Over the last couple of years this same group has started making beds, distributing household furniture and other items for those in need. 

M2540, a St. Luke partner, is a non-profit that serves the homeless community in the Columbus area. M2540’s mission is to minister to the spiritual and physical needs of the homeless and at-risk community, where they are, by:  

• Reaching them for Christ through personal and group evangelism, prayer, discipleship, bible and other Christian literature distribution
• Displaying the love of Christ through the development of authentic relationships, regardless of the reason they are homeless
• Conveying to the homeless community that God has not forgotten about them
• Acting as the hands and feet of Christ by consistently providing home-cooked meals, groceries-snack bags, hygiene items, clothing, shelter items, tents, first aid items, housing, furniture, appliances and other necessities 

On the fourth Monday of every month, volunteers from St. Luke meet in the Ministry Center at 5:30 p.m. to prepare, plate and package meals. We deliver these meals to M2540 for distribution, and many of our volunteers enjoy going out in teams to deliver the food to individuals in need. There is also time for a brief devotion with prayer before serving the meals.

Truth Spring, a St. Luke partner, is a Christian nonprofit organization based in Columbus.  Truth Spring’s mission is to develop and strengthen the North Highland community with Christ-centered projects and strategies. Truth Spring was founded by Highland Community Church, and is a result of an ongoing vision given by God to bring new life into the North Highland neighborhood – an area that has been ravaged by poverty, addiction, lack of education, and general hopelessness – and to do so for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.   

Clement Care, a St. Luke partner, is a partnership between Clement Arts, Live the Promise, and local churches who seek to establish foster care ministries within their congregations. This mission is carried out by equipping churches to support local foster and adoptive families, and biological families in crisis. By training churches on how to create and lead successful Family Advocacy Ministries (FAMs), we’re working toward seeing every child in a safe and loving family. 

Our outreach center is in action 3-4 days per week assisting our neighbors in need with groceries, household items, help with a utility bill and in various other ways. It is our intention to continue building sustainable change in our community while strengthening those relationships.

A United Methodist mission agency, Open Door was founded by Methodist women during the Depression to assist women and children of the Bibb Mill village, and still works to help women, older adults, and children.

Making our community healthier and wealthier with a three-point mission: to reduce unwed teenage pregnancy, to reduce the divorce rate and to increase the participation of fathers in the lives of their children in the Chattahoochee Valley area.
